Panthers 20, Browns 12 (AP)

Sun, 2006-10-08 20:34
Keyshawn Johnson sneaked off to the side of the tunnel, got onto his knees and genuflected as Julius Peppers was introduced to the crowd before the game. It was fitting, because Peppers and the Carolina defense bailed out the offense Sunday. Peppers had a sack, forced a fumble and hit quarterback Charlie Frye five other times, and Richard Marshall returned an interception for a touchdown as the...

Sun, 2006-10-08 19:29
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Dennis Northcutt left Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury. Northcutt left in the third quarter with one catch for 11 yards. He also couldn't catch a pass from Charlie Frye that bounced off his hands and right to rookie cornerback Richard Marshall, who returned the interception 30 yards for a first-quarter touchdown.

Browns without both cornerbacks against Carolina (AP)

Sun, 2006-10-08 16:26
Cleveland's Leigh Bodden was inactive for Sunday's game at Carolina, meaning the Browns were without both of their starting cornerbacks. Bodden, who rolled his ankle in last week's victory over Oakland, joined Gary Baxter on the inactive list. Baxter did not travel with the team because of an injured chest muscle.

Panthers, unbeaten with Smith, faced banged-up Browns (AP)

Sat, 2006-10-07 20:43
The Carolina Panthers are 0-2 when Steve Smith doesn't play, 2-0 when he does. The All-Pro receiver is healthy for the third straight week and Cleveland's cornerbacks are not, troubling news for the Browns as they travel to Carolina on Sunday. "Whether the secondary is banged up or not, he still presents those same problems because he's going to catch the ball," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said.

Sat, 2006-10-07 20:11
Browns cornerback Gary Baxter was downgraded Saturday from questionable to out because of a strained left pectoral muscle and won't travel with the team for its game Sunday at Carolina. It will be the third straight game Baxter has missed with the injury. He missed 10 games last season with a torn right pectoral.

Browns 24, Raiders 21 (AP)

Mon, 2006-10-02 00:47
Charlie Frye threw the ball up for grabs in the end zone and it looked as if another late mistake by the young quarterback would do in the Cleveland Browns. Instead, the defense held tough and the Browns rallied from 18 points down and won for the first time this season, 24-21 over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Frye's the guy for winless Browns (AP)

Thu, 2006-09-28 07:18
The Cleveland Browns seem to have found a starting quarterback after years of controversy and shuffling at the position. Now, they just have to make sure he stays healthy enough to play. Charlie Frye's gutty play through three games has provided a glimmer of hope for the winless Browns, who had searched in vain for a consistent starting quarterback since their return to the league in 1999.

As Matt Stover jogged onto the field, the Baltimore Ravens' worries were over. A few seconds and 52 yards later, Stover had given them three points and their first 3-0 start. "I've always called him Automatic Stover," linebacker Ray Lewis said. True to his nickname, Stover kicked a 52-yard field goal with 20 seconds left Sunday as the Ravens remained unbeaten by rallying for a 15-14 win over the...

Sun, 2006-09-24 19:46

Winslow clams up (AP)

Wed, 2006-09-20 20:23
Kellen Winslow walked into the locker room, snaked through some TV cameras and kicked off his sneakers. Snatching a pair of headphones from a shelf, he left moments later listening to loud music. No interviews, thank you. Winslow was quiet on Wednesday, a welcomed calm for the struggling Browns. At least Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel fixed one thing.
